A $5 Million Gift for the Ages
A funny thing happened to Mary and Carl Gulbrandsen on their way to the Dane County airport last fall.
The passengers whom they were transporting to fly back to their California home suddenly gave the Gulbrandsens an assignment: If it were up to them, where would they create two new faculty chairs at the University of Wisconsin–Madison? This was not your ordinary, drive-to-the-airport conversation, to be sure, but then, the Gulbrandsens’ friends were not your ordinary passengers. They were John and Tashia Morgridge—principal funders of the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery and the Morgridge Center for Public Service and donors to the School of Education and the Wisconsin School of Business.
